Lucy Foley’s The Midnight Feast is headed to the small screen, Deadline reports.
Foley’s novel, scheduled for publication in June by William Morrow, follows a group of guests staying at a new luxury hotel in southwest England called the Manor. The resort was built on the site of an ancient wood, and it’s not long before things start to go terribly awry.
Universal International Studios is developing the adaptation, which includes Foley as an executive producer; the company is also working on a television adaptation of Christie Watson’s Moral Injuries.
Foley said she was “thrilled” that her novel is headed to television.
“I knew from the first meeting that they loved and completely understood the book and everything I was trying to do in writing it,” she said. “I’m so excited by their hugely creative vision for adaptation and being part of the process—watch this space.”
Tesha Crawford, a senior vice president for Universal International Studios, praised Foley’s “ability to tell a story that is grounded by specificity of place but resonates on a global stage.”
“From the opening of The Midnight Feast, her characters, atmosphere and mystery all jumped off the page,” Crawford said. “We didn’t need to wait for the release to know that this brilliant novel has all the ingredients for an incredible television series. We can’t wait to bring this project to life.”
