Araminta Hall’s Imperfect Women is headed to the small screen with Elisabeth Moss on board to star, Variety reports.
Hall’s thriller novel, published in 2020 by MCD/Farrar, Straus and Giroux, follows two women whose lives are thrown into disarray after the murder of their friend, Nancy, who they may not have known as well as they thought. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “The murder-mystery aspect of the book is handled well, but the psychological novel is a little on the slow side.…Good bone structure.”
Apple TV+ is developing the limited series adaptation. Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Kerry Washington (Scandal, Little Fires Everywhere) will star, with Moss and Hall serving as executive producers.
Moss told Variety, “From the moment I received Araminta’s novel, I couldn’t put it down. It was such an electrifying read; I fell in love with it immediately. I’ve admired Kerry and her work as an actor and producer for many years and have been looking for something to work with her on and was so thrilled that she responded to the material when we sent it to her and Pilar at Simpson Street.”
Hall shared news of the adaptation on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “Wild that a story that starts as a germ of an idea inside your head, written at a kitchen table and published in a pandemic can become this. So grateful to everyone who made this happen and so incredibly excited!”
