Gypsy-Rose Blanchard will tell the story of her famously troubled life in a new memoir, People magazine reports.
BenBella Books will publish Blanchard’s My Time To Stand, co-written with Melissa Moore and Michele Matrisciani, next January.
Blanchard, a Louisiana native, became the subject of considerable media attention in 2015 after her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, was found stabbed to death in her Missouri home. Gypsy-Rose Blanchard and Nicholas Godejohn, her boyfriend, were arrested in connection with the slaying; both were convicted of murder.
Blanchard said that her mother had physically and psychologically abused her, forcing her to pretend that she suffered from a series of diseases and to use a wheelchair that she didn’t actually need. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder and served eight years before being released late last year.
Blanchard published an e-book in January, Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom, also co-written with Moore and Matrisciani.
She told People that the title of her forthcoming memoir refers to her initial attempts to stand after being forced to use a wheelchair in childhood.
“Only because I did the work, did my time to stand finally come,” she said. “Now, I can stand with other victims as they take steps toward doing whatever work is necessary to stand for themselves. My Time To Stand is about reclaiming my footing so others can be inspired to walk a life of purpose and meaning and build a future sturdy enough so others can stand for something, too.”
