Jamie Lee Curtis will narrate the audiobook edition of a book about slain journalist James Foley, People magazine reports.
The actor will serve as the narrator of American Mother, written by novelist Colum McCann with Diane Foley, the reporter’s mother. The audiobook, which will be published by the nonprofit Etruscan Press on March 5, is an account of James Foley’s life and career as a journalist, which was cut short in 2014 after he was murdered in Syria by the terrorist group ISIS. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus praised the book as “a harrowing memoir of grief and love.”
Curtis, known for her roles in films including Halloween, Freaky Friday, and Everything Everywhere All at Once, is herself an author, having written more than a dozen children’s books, including Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born, It’s Hard To Be Five, and Just One More Sleep, all illustrated by Laura Cornell.
In a statement, Curtis said, “I am honored to bring Diane’s story to life. Many are familiar with Jim’s kidnapping and his brutal beheading 10 years ago. It was broadcast all around the world and became one of the iconic photos of our time. But few know the real story of exactly how this ordinary mother of five, former nurse and literal force of nature took the worst imaginable event in her life and turned it into a powerful act of grace.”
Diane Foley said in a statement, “I am so grateful to Jamie Lee for so generously helping tell Jim’s story and continuing his legacy of goodness.”
