The highly anticipated film Killers of the Flower Moon has a new global release date, Variety reports.
Apple Studios announced that the Martin Scorsese film, based on David Grann’s bestselling book, will hit theaters worldwide on Oct. 20. The movie had previously been scheduled for a limited release two weeks prior to that.
Grann’s book, published in 2017 by Doubleday, tells the story of a series of killings of members of the Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “Dogged original research and superb narrative skills come together in this gripping account of pitiless evil.”
The film adaptation, written by Scorsese and Eric Roth, features an ensemble cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, Tantoo Cardinal, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, and Jason Isbell.
The movie seems likely to be a hit, drawing Barbenheimer levels of buzz from moviegoers. A brief trailer for the film debuted in May, with another following last month; both have racked up millions of views on YouTube.
Promotion for the film could be affected by the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes that have gripped Hollywood. The strikes have remained unresolved; if they continue into October, the cast of the movie would be unable to do promotional appearances for it.
